Yeo Street Apartment
Having rented out their apartment for 6 years, the owners wanted to freshen up and modernise their 94 sqm 1930s apartment, without losing all of the period detailing. Whilst the apartment was spacious, the Kitchen was isolated and the Dining Room was undersized due to the inclusion of a corridor connecting the Kitchen to the Bedrooms and Bathroom. Consequently, the corridor wall was removed to enlarge the Dining Room so that it could comfortably accommodate a dining table for 6 and the kitchen opening enlarged to connect the Kitchen to the Dining Room. A new decorative ceiling in the enlarged Dining Room along with a carefully extended and reinstated timber plate shelf, skirting boards and the like, enabled the new to be seamlessly integrated with the existing. The dark stain applied to the floor helped hide a 'multitude of sins' due to differences in the flooring species and patching, as well as visually connecting the Kitchen, Dining Room and Living Room. The insertion of new matching timber french doors, allowed direct access from the Study to the Garden, which turned the apartment into a much more desirable Garden apartment.
